Frequently Asked Questions

Who qualifies for a sports massage?

Any equine athlete, show horse, pleasure horse, horse on stall rest, retired partner.

Does massage replace veterinary care?

Absolutely not! Sports masssage is not meant to replace other therapies for injured or sick horses. While massage will aid in the recovery from injuries, reduce swelling and remove toxins that can cause stiffness, it is most effective when used as a preventative measure.

Will massage help my horse that has arthritis?

Yes! Deep massage alleviates pain by helping to reduce the swelling and inflamation in the joints. It also assists in increasing the production of synovial fuild - the fluid that cushions the joint. Combine that with the fantastic results from using LubriSyn, you can extend your performance years in your equine partner.

I ride dressage and jumpers - would this benefit my horse?

Yes! Massage helps with flexing, range of motion and balance - all important in dressage and jumping.

My horses are performance horses - barrel racing, roping and reining. How can massage benefit them?

Sports Massage improves range of motion, flexibility and speeds in healing from rigorus activity. When used as pre-event treatment, it reduces physical and mental stress.

How long does it take to massage my horse?

It takes aproximately 1 hour

How often should I have my horse massaged?

It usually only takes 1 or 2 massages to free up muscles that are in spasm and return the horse to full working capacity. Many horses however, benefit from regular "tune ups" or maintenance treatments to keep them balanced and in peak performance status. We offer a maintenance treatment discount - ask us!

How do I  know my horse is enjoying his massage?

There are specific behaviors that indicate satisfaction and relaxation from the massage. They are: heavy exhaling, licking, turning to nuzzle the therapist, leaning into the deep pressure, falling asleep, having a "glazed" look in their eyes.
